New Year, New President

Alun Jones becomes the first man to take up the role of president of the Girls’ Schools Association this year.

Alun, who is head of St Gabriel’s School in Newbury, is a former choral scholar, freelance singer and ad-hoc member of the BBC Singers. He began his teaching career at The Cathedral School, Llandaff and The United College of the Atlantic, St Donats Castle.

Before becoming principal at St Gabriel’s in 2001, he was music master & choirmaster, director of studies and deputy headmaster in a number of Girls Schools’ Association (GSA) boarding and day schools.

Alongside headship, Alun has been a team inspector for the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI) since 2002 and is a director on the ISI Board. He is a former chairman of the GSA Inspections & Membership Committees.
