Independent School Bursary Students Top Results

Students studying at some of the top independent girls’ schools in the country thanks to a variety of bursary schemes are reaping the rewards today with a string of A*s in their GCSES.

Gloria George is the top performer in her school, Howell’s Llandaff, with 11 A*s. Gloria, who lives with her mum in Cardiff, joined Howell’s in Year 7 on an HSBC funded bursary, and has since blossomed into a confident, talented student. The HSBC bursary scheme funds Howell’s students who would otherwise not be able to attend a fee-paying school. Gloria is looking forward to the start of next term, when she will be a student at Howell’s College, studying Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and French at A-level.

Meanwhile, Maia Jarvis and Aimee Tian are two of the top performing students at St Mary’s Calne in Wiltshire, with 10 A*s and 1A grade each. Maia and Aimee joined St Mary’s thanks to a foundation scholarship which is specifically offered to gifted and talented pupils from the state sector.
