Izzy Bizu- ‘It first started here’
Stamford Endowed Schools were delighted to host the long awaited return of former student, Izzy Bizu, on Tuesday 27th October as the MOBO Awards nominee performed a selection of her songs to a captivated audience in Rutland Radio’s organised ‘Up close with Izzy’ concert.
The assembled audience, which was constructed by lucky winners of Rutland Radio’s competition, were treated to a dazzling performance from Izzy, the type of show which has seen her receive so much national recognition in recent years.
Izzy’s stock has soared in 2016, and has recently been nominated for a converted MOBO Award in the ‘Best Newcomers’ category against artists such as 67, Anne-Marie and WSTRN. Further achievements of hers include being shortlisted for a Brit critics’ choice award, longlisted for the BBC’s Sound of 2016 poll, touring with Sam Smith and singing the sound track for the BBC’s coverage of Euro 2016. Izzy has now also recently released her debut album, ‘A Moment of Madness’.
Before her show Izzy met with Mr and Mrs Mitchell, her former boarding parents from her time in St Michael’s boarding house. For 45 minutes Izzy performed some of her acclaimed songs including; Skinny, Diamond and White Tiger. At the conclusion of her performances she took questions from the audience, before later signing copies of her album and posing for photos for the thrilled audience.
Izzy, fresh from preforming on BBC Radio 1’s prestigious Live Lounge earlier in the day, kindly sat down after her show to talk about her time at the schools and her route into singing.
Izzy commented on what made her start singing.
Izzy Bizu, “It first started here, when I got back from a long day at school I liked winding down on a piano and I found it really calming.”
Izzy continues by explaining how she liked to play music with her housemaster.
Izzy Bizu, “At first I did it on my own and then he heard me singing, I saw he played piano, and I was like; ‘can you teach me some songs’. I wanted someone to play music with, he did and was very sweet!”
