After a special assembly, the dogs and their human friends from Guide Dogs spent time with girls from the Prep Department. Everyone was thrilled to meet guide dogs Taylor and Quaver and puppy in training, 6 month old Nellie. The girls took part in a number of activities aimed at showing them what it is like to be blind or partially sighted. These included pouring water blindfolded and attempting to read Braille.
Ms Marina Stentiford, Head of MSJ’s Preparatory Department, commented, “The Guide Dogs not only showed their owners a clear path, they also made it easier for our girls to see what hard work, training and a willingness to help others can achieve. The training and dedication shown by both dogs and handlers proved to be inspirational for those listening. More than one of our girls was later reflecting on how they could excel when helping others and themselves. An enjoyable and entertainingly engaging morning; I am extremely grateful to the volunteers who took time out of their day to visit us.”
