HMSG’S Children in Need Extravaganza raises nearly £4k

28 November 2016

Pupils and staff at a girls’ school did Pudsey proud when they put on a musical extravaganza to raise almost £4,000 for Children in Need. Children between Year 7 and Sixth Form took to the stage at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls last Wednesday evening to deliver a colourful variety of dances, vocal performances and instrumental pieces.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Spotacular dance – featuring Elvis himself – along with the aptly themed Bear Hug routine by girls in Years 8 to 13, and the surprising Staff (S)Mash Up montage delighted a packed audience. And in the second half, joined by musicians from Monmouth School, the Senior Strings, Symphonic Winds and HMSG Orchestra performed a series of stunning pieces, finishing on an epic tribute to the Rocky soundtrack.

An auction, including handwritten song lyrics, stage dress, heels and a CD belonging to pop star and former pupil, Marina Diamandis, helped to rake in the donations. HMSG has supported Children in Need since 1984 and has raised more than £50,000 for the cause during that time.

Thanks to hard-working pupils and staff, especially Director of Music, Mr Mario Conway, and Head of Dance, Ms Rhyan Parry, the School raised £4,000 in one evening in 2012 and £3,900 in 2014. HMSG has staged 20 concerts for the charity so far, and never collected less than £2,000 during each event.
