Northampton High School U13 Netball Team win IAPS Regional Netball Tournament

We came, we played, we conquered!

The U13 Netball team travelled to Uppingham on Monday 6 March to compete in the regional IAPS netball tournament. The team started strongly winning 4 out of their 5 pool matches, with victories against Swanbourne House, Wellingborough Prep, St Olave’s York and St Johns. Despite a loss to St Faiths (Cambs) by one goal in our final pool match, which we qualified as runners up from our pool.

The team played Beeston Hall in the first of the knock out stages winning 12-9 and then went on to play Bromsgrove School in an end to end thriller which ended with the scores tied at the end of the allotted time. A ‘golden goal’ scenario followed; NHS kept their composure and marked Bromsgrove tightly to turn the ball over. Lily King kept calm and scored the golden goal to put Northampton through to the final!

The next stage involved triangular against Winchester House and St Faiths to determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions but we knew at this stage that the team had already qualified for the IAPS National Finals! Northampton drew against St Faiths and thus improved on our pool match result against them and went on to beat Winchester House 13-10! This meant we were crowned 2017 Midlands Champions for U13 and have therefore secured a better draw for the IAPS finals on Friday 10 March in Basildon.

Miss Charlie Hurst, PE Teacher commented “Congratulations to all girls who worked incredibly hard and stayed focussed to produce a fantastic team effort! We are now looking forward to the National Final on Friday in Basildon”
