The parade was a colourful collaboration between Talbot Heath School, Carnival of Objects Theatre Company, Arts University Bournemouth, Bournemouth and Poole College, St Martins School and Marine Conservation Society to highlight marine conservation issues and raise awareness to protect our oceans. The Marine Conservation Society also had a stand on the beachfront and gave out information on marine conservation.
Spectacular, giant puppets and masks and banners were paraded along the seafront, with dancers and drumming. Mermaids, jellyfish, giant fish, a Narwhal, sea gods, a polar bear and sea dragons were all the result of 6 months hard work within workshops at Talbot Heath School as well as by individuals within the community.
Nicola Baylis, who has run the workshops at Talbot Heath said, “This has been a brilliant event. So much enthusiasm, creativity and hard work has been injected into this project. The puppets and masks are spectacular. It’s wonderful to see so many people feeling so passionately about sea conservation and coming out in force to demonstrate the importance of protecting our beautiful oceans”.
