21 July 2017

Former pupil Sally Goodhand takes to the field this week at the lacrosse world cup. Sally, aged 21, who attended St Swithun’s school from 2000 to 2014 will play in the Scotland lacrosse squad which opens its world cup challenge against the USA on Thursday at Surrey Sports Park.

A student at Edinburgh University, Sally has been training with the Scotland team for two years, and qualified for the world cup squad following tours to San Francisco and Florida earlier this season.

Scotland are in pool A of the tournament, which runs until 22 July. They will play England, Wales, the USA, Canada and Australia on their way to the final stages of the championship, which will be televised.

Head of Lacrosse at St Swithun’s school, Kate Nelson-Lee said “It’s wonderful to watch Sally playing on the world stage. As Scotland is playing in the top pool, she could end up defending some of the biggest names in lacrosse over the next two weeks. Sally will do St Swithun’s proud, without a doubt.”

Sally, from Alresford, was a sports scholar at St Swithun’s.
