HRH The Princess Royal makes it a very Royal day

15 July 2017

HRH The Princess Royal attended The Royal School’s Prize Giving in Haslemere on Friday 30 June to help celebrate the achievements and endeavours of pupils over the last academic year. The then Princess Anne succeeded her Uncle, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, as President of the School in 1975. She has been a regular visitor to the School which is very proud of its Royal connections beginning with Queen Victoria, a founder donor, in 1840.

The School has always been committed to its mission to provide a holistic education, providing inspirational teaching and seeking to discover and develop the gifts and talents of every pupil.

When the School was founded in 1840 it was a forward thinking and pioneering project to educate the daughters of naval officers. The School’s expansion to educate boys within the diamond structure is equally pioneering, being one of only eight schools in the country where pupils benefit academically from single-sex classes at key points in their learning. It is the first time The Princess Royal has visited since boys have been at the Senior School site in Haslemere and when she spoke to staff after the Prize Giving ceremony she asked how the arrival of boys had changed the School.

Demonstrating her down-to-earth approach, Her Royal Highness spent time afterwards talking to members of staff, governors, pupils and parents and delighted everyone she spoke to.
