Prep School Production of ‘Mulan’

Prep School Production of ‘Mulan’

7 July 2017

On Thursday 22 and Friday 23 June, Years 4-6 performed their fantastic 2017 drama production, ‘Mulan’, in the Judi Dench Theatre. Based on the Oscar nominated film, Disney’s Mulan Jr. is a heart-warming celebration of culture, honour, and the fighting spirit. With hit songs and a story packed with action, humour and heart, Mulan brings ancient China to life.

All of the girls embraced their character roles, taking them on with passion to transport the viewers into the story of Mulan. The full audiences were entertained by brilliant acting, singing, dancing and music.

The pupils were heavily involved in the design aspect of the show, including the Year 5 and 6 pupils painting their own beautiful Chinese lanterns and parasols. The cast members have documented their creative journey in an Arts Award journal which will culminate in each pupil receiving an Award commissioned by Trinity College London.

Preparing for the production presented exciting new challenges; creating visually complex choreography, learning songs in multiple parts and discovering the calming effects of tai chi.

Teamwork is at the heart of every Abbot’s Hill production, with the teachers of the Performing & Creative Arts Department, all of the pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 and the Prep School staff working collaboratively.

Well done to all of the girls who took part and a big thank you to all of the staff who worked incredibly hard to make the show a great success.
