Bedford Girls School Student Crowned a Champion of Champions

28 September 2017

Bedford Girls’ School Lower Sixth student Georgia Staroscik produced a fine golfing display to win the coveted Champion of Champions girls’ title for Bedfordshire at Woodhall Spa on Saturday 16th September.

The women and girls’ tournament was introduced for the first time last year; Georgia follows in the footsteps of illustrious past winners Sir Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood.

Georgia shot two-over 74 and won by a stroke from Caley McGinty of Knowle, Gloucestershire. She started her round very smoothly and, playing from the 10th was one under par after nine and held it brilliantly in the tough weather conditions.

Georgia said: “It was a brilliant experience, especially as it was my first time playing in the Champion of Champions. I went into the competition to try my best as a golfer, but to come out with a win, as well, was a great achievement not only for myself but also for the county.”

Mrs Jane Axford, Director of Sport at BGS, said: “Georgia winning the Champion of Champions title is a superb achievement for Bedfordshire. She has demonstrated her commitment alongside her school sport and golf whilst still studying hard to complete her GCSEs last summer, proving that you can juggle both with hard work and determination.”

This is Georgia’s most successful golfing year to date, next year she will be pushing herself to play in the English Girls’ Championship.
