Kilgraston’s cultural trip to India

Kilgraston’s cultural trip to India

16 October 2017

On Monday 10th October, we waved goodbye to eight Kilgraston girls, Mrs Lund and Chaplain as they embarked on a once in a lifetime journey to the Unison World School (UWS) in India. UWS is an all-girls residential school in Dehradun, set in the foothills of the Himalayas and is ranked as number three school in India.

Over the last three years, Kilgraston has welcomed a group of UWS students to experience an education in the UK and learn all about the Scottish culture: it was now Kilgraston’s turn to travel nearly 5,000 miles. The Exchange Programme with UWS will continue to promote the advancement of international understanding, the dissemination of learning and strengthening of cultural ties.

On arrival in Dehradun, the girls were welcomed by Mrs. Veena Singh, Principal Unison World School, and the UWS students with marigold garlands and vermilion. The Indian traditional welcome was a beautiful start to their cultural experience. As well as fully embracing the Indian culture, the girls will be presenting and performing traditional Scottish dances to the girls and staff of UWS.

Kilgraston Headmistress, Mrs Dorothy MacGinty said, “ It is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to stay in one of the top schools in India and immerse themselves in the Indian education and culture. It is a wonderful occasion for both the students and staff and I am sure they will bring back a great deal to share with the other girls when they return.”
