Girls’ Division in North West Top Ten

4 December 2017

Bolton School Girls’ Division has been listed among the Top Ten independent schools in the North West of England.

Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018, ranked the Girls’ Division as ninth in the North West. However, the School is the best independent school in the north Manchester and Lancashire region and the only independent school from this area to appear in the Top Ten.

The list was published in The Sunday Times and online on Sunday, November 26. This 25th edition of Parent Power identifies the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by their recent examination results. The tables show that 77.7% of Girls’ Division pupils achieved A*-B in their A Level results, while at GCSE 60.7% of pupils received grades of A*-A. The School’s national rank has also increased significantly, moving up from 170 in 2016 to 161 this year.

Headmistress Sue Hincks said, “We are always delighted when Bolton School is recognised in League tables, reflecting our examination success. Bolton School is far more than achievement in examinations, however. In particular we value extra curricular and volunteering activities as being key to developing our pupils in to well-rounded young adults who understand the need to give back to their community.”

The Parent Power database, which is fully searchable by school name, local authority, town and postcode, is available, together with new regional rankings, to Times and Sunday Times subscribers here.

This latest Sunday Times ranking continues a tradition of high rankings in previous years from various league tables: January 2017(DfE), January 2016 (DfE), August 2015 (data from Independent Schools Council), January 2013 (DfE), January 2012 (DfE).
