The tournament saw ten teams from nine schools across the district compete for a place at the Worcestershire County Finals in January.
Malvern St James fielded two teams who were drawn in different groups. After some great attacking and defending in all their group matches against Castlemorton, Eldersfield Lawn, Martley and Rushwick, the A team finished at the top of their group, winning all four matches, without conceding a goal and earning them a place in the final. Goal scorers were Susannah Watkins (2), Charlotte Brookes (2) and Hettie Smith.
The Malvern St James B team were also unbeaten in their group matches, and also kept four clean sheets, against Great Malvern, Hanley Swan, Malvern Wells and Upton-upon-Severn but narrowly missed out on winning their group. Goal scorers were Lilia Mico, Grace Earp and Alex Brookes. The B team’s 2nd place finish earnt them a place in the third/fourth play-off match.
The competition final saw the Malvern St James A team playing the winners of group B, Hanley Swan, to decide who would be this year’s district champions. At the same time the Malvern St James B’s were playing the runners up from group A, Rushwick, for 3rd/4th place.
Both Malvern St James teams played really well and deservedly came out on top in their matches. Charlotte Brookes scored the only goal in a nerve wracking final to secure victory for the A team, while Lilia Mico netted for the Bs.
These victories meant that the B team finished in 3rd place and the A team were crowned District Champions and will go on to represent Malvern District in the Worcestershire Football Championships early next year.
