Sixth formers Olivia and Julia from both took second prize in the age categories they entered in whilst eight fellow senior school pupils, 16 from the Prep School and 10 from the Pre-Prep school were highly commended or commended for their entries.

The Art Department at JAGS lets the pupils express their creativity using a range of traditional and modern media with an emphasis on personal choice which led to a variety of styles across all the competition entries. In addition to what they learn on the syllabus there many extra curricular opportunities for JAGS girls to experiment with different mediums and techniques, including house competitions and art themed visits to destinations such as New York and Italy.

This is the 28th year that the Young Art competition has been run and in that time it has raised over £1,000,000 for research into childhood cancers.

The theme for this year was “Feelings” and the winning entries, which are now being exhibited at the prestigious Royal College of Art, were chosen by a panel of leading contemporary artists including Professor Ken Howard, Nicola Bayley and James Hart Dyke.

More information on how to visit the Young Art exhibition is available here.
