Boarding School Can Deliver a Better Future to Vulnerable Children

1 May 2018

A place at boarding school can drastically alter the future of vulnerable children, according to new research commissioned by the Boarding Schools’ Association and the Boarding Schools’ Partnership.

The Government survey follows the progress of 52 looked after young people from Norfolk Council who have been sent to boarding school under the new Boarding Schools Partnership initiative. The results will be published in the summer and it is expected that they will show that the majority of young people who were sent to boarding school after being in care were afterwards taken off the risk register at their local council.

So far over 80 councils have joined the Boarding Schools Partnership and it is hoped that more will follow suit. Councils currently fund approximately 100 children but it is hoped to increase this to 1,000 children a year within a five year period.
