St Helen and St Katharine alumnae mentoring scheme second year launch

11 May 2018

The Kate Scheme was launched in 2017 and has already established some fruitful mentor/mentee relationships. For 2018 we had an overwhelming response from alumnae who wanted to offer their skills, advice and expertise to students. After carefully considering the career aspirations of those Upper Sixth students applying to take part in the scheme, we were able to successfully match 24 mentees with mentors.

We are hugely grateful to those mentors who attended our 2018 launch event at the School to meet for the first time with their mentees. Their experience varies across industries such as computer science, management consultancy and business, economics, music, accountancy and law.

The Science Atrium was buzzing with conversation during the afternoon with phone numbers, email addresses, LinkedIn and Skype details being exchanged with the promise of further meet-ups once A-levels are over.

Headmistress Mrs Dougall: “We really understand the power and value that a mentor can offer and are extremely grateful for the enormous levels of experience and willingness amongst our alumnae community to offer ongoing support to our students. There may only be occasional interactions between a student and their mentor, but having words of encouragement and being able to instill confidence will undoubtedly inspire and be of great help to them as they make the transition between school, higher education and their careers.”
