St Helen and St Katharine Young Enterprise companies celebrate successes

1 May 2018

This year sixteen Year 10 students from St Helen and St Katharine have taken part in Young Enterprise. One company, Imprint, have made personalised key rings, Craft Kit shopping bags, greetings cards and decorated notebooks. They have attended trade fairs, sold products in school and presented their experiences at the South and Vale Showcase presentation on 26 March.

The second company, Kakushin, have traded in personalised Thermos bottles, embroidered T-shirts and record clocks. The bottles have sold exceptionally well and they made a healthy profit. On 27 January they sold their products at a trade fair in Cowley where had great success and managed to sell over 20 of their water bottles, including to the MP for East Oxford Anneliese Dodds. Kakushin received the Highly Commended Customer Service award, presented by Ms Dodds, and at the showcase evening at Abingdon School they were chosen as the team with the best presentation.

Both teams have experienced the ups-and-downs of running a small enterprise and as a result have gathered a variety of business skills, including marketing, finance and production. They have grown in confidence and developed interpersonal skills showing excellent team working and communication throughout the year.

‘It was a great experience to be able to sell our products to a wider range of people than our sales at school and gave us the chance to use our communication skills to draw people in to our stand.’

Jasmine, 10L
