CLC pupils celebrate outstanding IB results

16 July 2018

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma results, released on Friday (6th July), saw 100% CLC students with Oxbridge offers meet the requirements needed to attend the world-leading universities, accounting for 11% of this year’s IB pupils at the school. Pupils who have chosen to take up their Oxbridge places will be going on to study subjects including Law, English, Veterinary Science and History.

Two pupils have been awarded the highest possible grade of 45 points, which was achieved by just 218 (0.1%) students last year, from more than 159,400 IB pupils worldwide. Over the last 10 years, 4% of CLC pupils have achieved full marks in their IB Diplomas.

The IB Diploma is made up of Higher and Standard level subjects and a third student has also achieved full marks in all three of her Higher Level subjects.

Girls from the IB Class of 2018 have secured places at a number of other prestigious international institutions, including Yale and Brown in the US and CUHK, as well as a range of top UK universities, including Durham, LSE, Bristol, St George’s, KCL, Imperial, UCL and Edinburgh.

Pupils will go on to study a wide range of subjects, including Medicine, Engineering & Management, Literature, Biochemistry, French & Philosophy, History & Modern Languages, Neuroscience, Government & Economics, and Fashion & Textiles.

Principal Eve Jardine-Young said: “I am delighted and proud that the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff has led to such outstanding results. The option to take the IB Diploma programme adds a great deal to the distinctive education at CLC and this year has seen our largest cohort since the introduction of the IB in 2008.”

Since Cheltenham Ladies’ College began teaching the IB Diploma programme, pupils have consistently achieved high results and, for the past three years, the school has been named top girls boarding school in the country for IB.
