Commanding Officer at the Harrogate-based Army Foundation College, Lt Col Hall gave a fascinating talk to pupils and parents about the importance of values and standards which are equally as important to the Armed Forces as to Highfield Prep School.
Lt Col Hall drew on his experiences of serving in Afghanistan and described how the Army’s values determined the actions he and his troops took in challenging situations. Lt Col Hall said,
“It was a real honour to be invited to Highfield Prep School and hand out the prizes at Speech Day. The values that the army live and breathe are clearly the same as Highfield’s and make it a wonderful school community that the children thrive in.
“The children should be very proud of what they have achieved during the past year. I hope they reflect on what they have learnt and continue to be curious, to persevere, to be independent and remember that as an individual, no link is less important than another in a chain.”
James Savile, Head of Highfield Prep School said, “We were delighted that Lt Col Hall was able to speak to the children, their families and invited guests on Speech Day. Our children embody the values of our school – hard work, decency and compassion and I am tremendously proud of them all.
“I was also amazed to discover how remarkably similar managing 1,000 young soldiers is to managing a school!”
The Army Foundation College delivers training to over 1,000 Junior Soldiers aged 16-17 each year on a variety of military aspects including education.
