Creative Arts Tops in GCSEs at Queen Margaret’s

23 August 2018

The GCSE results are in and its great news for Queen Margaret’s. Creative Arts subjects are thriving, securing strong results along with core subjects such as Mathematics and Sciences. With Creative Arts subjects being cut back in many secondary schools, today’s results are a testament to QM’s wide ranging support for the Creative Arts sector alongside its core curriculum, which offers girls a broad spectrum of opportunities.

Results reveal that 34% of entries secured the coveted 9 – 8 (A*) grades or equivalent. 56% of girls scooped 5 or more 9 – 7 (A* – A) grades or equivalent, including Mathematics and English and 62% of girls achieved all 9-6 (A* – B) grades. The impressive results highlighted that 100% of entries secured 9 – 6 (A* – B) grades in Art and German. Similarly, 100% of entries scooped 9 – 7 (A* – A) grades in Latin, Greek, Arabic and Music which is great news for the North of England’s only all-girls independent boarding school.

Queen Margaret’s Head, Jessica Miles, is delighted with the results: “We are pleased core academic subjects but also in creative arts disciplines. Our girls are unique and individual and QM’s wide ranging curriculum offer caters for this individuality. Girls flourish through their time with us and are able to take advantage of a wide variety of subjects which means that they excel through learning, evident in today’s GCSE results. This makes their journey at QM a rewarding, enriching and positive experience for all.”

Having received their strong results, the Year V girls will continue their journey to independence as they go on to study A Levels within the School’s Sixth Form. A Sixth Form Open Morning will be held at QM on Saturday 13 October 2018 for prospective girls and their parents to see the School, meet the QM team and find out more about the opportunities QM can offer.
