Bruton School for Girls is celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with almost 60% of all grades awarded A, A* or equivalent grade 7, 8 or 9, and 40% at A*or 8 and 9 – the highest ever percentage for the top grade.
97% of students gained five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with 86% of entries at least Grade 5 (B or above).
Among the top grades were:
Lucy R from Frome who gained 8 x 9s, 1 x 8 and 1 x 7
Hannah H from Penselwood gained 7 x 9s and 3 x 8s
Zuzu B from Warminster gained 6 x 9s and 4 x 8s
Flora H from South Cadbury gained 5 x 9s, 4 x 8s and 1 x A
Sophie G from Galhampton gained 7 x 8s and 2 x 7s.
Headmistress, Nicky Botterill congratulated all the girls on their results and said: “There is no doubt that the new GCSEs are extremely challenging, and our girls and staff have risen to the demands. I feel very proud of all they have achieved and as an academically non-selective school our results are remarkable, adding on average over one whole grade to the girls’ predicted attainment. It is especially pleasing to see success across all our departments, with nearly 60% of Chemistry grades awarded the new stellar level 9, 100% of Latin entries awarded a grade 8 or 9 and nearly 60% of the English Literature grades awarded an 8 or above. We are delighted for each and every one of our girls, including those who have found academic work more challenging, and these results are testament to an enormous amount of hard work across the board.
Of course there is far more to an excellent education than just results. All our girls have had the opportunity to develop qualities such as determination and resilience, which are vital in the ever changing work place. Here at Bruton School for Girls we provide a holistic education which ensures we educate the whole person for life beyond the classroom”.
Bruton School for Girls is looking forward to welcoming back students into the Lower Sixth who will be joined by a record number of new girls to begin their A level studies, continuing to build a firm foundation for the future.
