Saint Martin’s girls celebrate another great year of A-level results

16 August 2018

CELEBRATIONS were the order of the day at Saint Martin’s School as A-level students marked yet another fantastic year of results.

Pupils and staff at the independent day school for girls in Brueton Avenue were delighted as they again celebrated a 100 per cent pass rate across all subjects.

Furthermore, an impressive 91 per cent of grades received were A*-C and over a quarter of all grades were A* and A.

One hundred per cent of students taking Drama, French and Geography also secured A* – B grades.

The results mark a great year for Saint Martin’s as it, like other schools, is adapting to a new system of reform which moves away from coursework and puts a greater focus on final, more challenging, longer and rigorous, exams.

The girls will be progressing to Higher Education institutions across the UK and further afield.

This year’s highest achievers were Lucy Winn who got four A grades in Biology, Chemistry, French and Maths and Carian Schofield who has secured a place at Michigan University in the USA to study Biochemistry thanks to her outstanding efforts.

Head Nicola Smillie praised the students and staff for another fantastic year of results at the school.

She said: “The fantastic achievements of the class of 2018 are testament to the hard work and dedication of the girls and the teachers who have helped them over the years – especially in light of the new exam-based system.”

“We have had some outstanding results and the progress the girls have made since they started with us has been excellent.”

“We are so very proud of every single one of them and wish them all the very best for the future – whatever it may hold for them.”

Carol McNidder, Chair of Governors added: “Our excellent results and the success of our girls in progressing to their chosen Higher Education courses and future careers confirm how well the staff know the girls.

“This is testament to the sound advice given by the Head of Sixth Form and her dedicated team of tutors.”

“The knowledge and skills that the girls have acquired at Saint Martin’s will stand them in good stead for the next stage of their lives. We look forward to hearing of their continued success.

Saint Martin’s School will be hosting an open day on Saturday 15th September from 9:30am – 12:00pm. For more information about the school – and how to become a part of it – visit: www.saintmartins-school.com.
