Saint Martin’s school celebrates outstanding GCSE results

23 August 2018

There were smiles all round as Saint Martin’s School celebrated one of its best ever years of GCSE results today (Thursday).

The Class of 2018 descended on the independent school for girls in Brueton Avenue at 8am – eager to find out their results. And there were tears of joy and celebrations as pupils and staff were rewarded for all their hard work with some outstanding results – among the best in the school’s history and featuring the largest ever haul of A* grades.

An impressive 37 per cent of all grades were A* – 8 or 9 in the new system of marking – while 82 per cent of marks were A*, A and B (6-9) and 62 per cent were A* or A (7,8 and 9).

Latin, Geography and Food Technology saw a 100 per cent A* and A pass rate, while History saw an 80 per cent A* and A pass rate, English Literature a 75 per cent A* and A pass rate and Biology a 76 per cent A* and A pass rate.

Saint Martin’s also boasts one of the country’s top performers – Shonali Banjeree – who gained ten A* (Grade 9) GCSE passes and will be heading straight into the Saint Martin’s Sixth Form to study Maths, Physics, Economics and Further Maths.

Other stand-out achievements came from Sarah Noble and Madeeha Saher who gained 10 passes at A* (Grade 8 and 9).

Head Nicola Smillie praised the pupils – and the staff – for their efforts.

She said: “We are delighted and proud in equal measure of our Class of 2018, who have achieved such fantastic GCSE results.”

“Their successes are testament to the hard work they and the teachers have put in over the years.”

“The majority of the girls will be heading straight to our Sixth Form, where we are very much looking forward to seeing them continue their amazing performance.”
