Wimbledon High Girls raise £11,516 for Girls4Girls project in Sri Lanka

The team documented their amazing experiences through daily blog posts. They had the chance to go on Safari, visit an Elephant museum, undertook various workshops and decorated two state-run children’s institutions whilst fully immersing themselves into the Sri Lankan lifestyle. Here are some quotes from them:

“During the journey everyone was captivated by the lush and varied foliage of the forests. Everyone was very excited when we arrived, met Mr Percy and he showed us his brand new beautiful guesthouse. His dining room and kitchen are on the third floor with panoramic views of the ocean. The chef cooked us an amazing meal for lunch of rice, dhal and vegetarian curry. After lunch we went to visit Ruhunu. We looked at the area where we are going to paint tomorrow we met some of the older girls. Our leaders commented on how brilliantly and naturally we started conversations with the girls and we are all really excited about getting started properly tomorrow.” – Señora Nullens and Ms Owens

“After paint coat number 1, we headed back to our guest house for another amazing meal of curry and fresh fruit. Next we met the older girls again and began our very first Girls4Girls workshop in which we all sang songs, played games and equipped everyone with a bright yellow Inspire Worldwide bandana.
Following this we took part in an arts and crafts session with Helen who works for the Their Future Today charity. We painted abstract pieces on canvas inspired by Gillian Ayers in which everyone’s individual personalities and creativity shone through.
We learnt our second song of the trip with beautiful lyrics of connection and collaboration of women around the world: one world, one voice, one heart beating.
On return to the guesthouse we were so shattered we couldn’t help having a well-earned nap and plate of noodles. It truly was a fulfilling day.” – Phoebe and Rosie

“The Girls4Girls workshop today was incredible, our connections with the girls are strengthening day upon day. We are still in awe of the girls’ strength, beauty and grace, learning endlessly from them.” – Gaia
