Phoebe’s pedalling helps raise over £4 million for Children in Need

Phoebe Avbulimen, who left Woldingham’s Upper Sixth this summer after her A Levels, took part in The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge which completed its demanding 423 mile route on Friday evening live on BBC Children in Need. Upon arrival at Media City, Salford, Phoebe and her fellow Rickshaw cyclists watched as the amount of money they’d raised flashed up on the side of a building – an incredible £4,332,839!

All of the young people selected to take part in this incredible challenge had been supported by BBC Children in Need projects: Phoebe by Action for Stammering Children, having developed a stammer at the age of eight. The charity enables young people with a stammer to gain confidence when communicating and build a peer support network. That they helped Phoebe flourish was evidence by her confident performance in Woldingham’s Senior Production of The Sound of Music. Following excellent A Level results, Phoebe is now studying Medicine at university.

Woldingham’s Deputy Head, Pastoral, Mrs Judith Brown, commented:

“We’re so proud of Phoebe and everything that she’s achieved. She has overcome the challenges she has faced with grace, strength and courage.”
