Alan Titchmarsh inspires Royal students to grow

The Royal School enjoyed their third Royal Lecture of 2018-19 on Monday 12 November when Mr Alan Titchmarsh MBE VMH DL spoke to students, staff and parents on the subject of ‘Making the most of life’s opportunities’. Mr Alan Titchmarsh is well known to The Royal School as a former parent and he has made a fantastic contribution to the school’s Grow for It! free gardening and wildlife event over many years.

Mrs Anne Lynch, Principal, said, “His Royal Lecture was a wonderful opportunity to discover more about his philosophy of life and to hear of the experiences that he wanted to share with our pupils.” Mr Norman, Head of Sixth Form, added, “Hearing of his experiences from graduating with a Diploma in Horticulture, working as a teacher at The Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, a career in gardening journalism, early adventures as an expert on the radio, before going onto host some hugely popular television programmes and interview internationally famous stars, was wonderful.

His interest in other people and celebrating their efforts to overcome setbacks and ultimate successes was clearly evident. A favourite quotation out of the many words of wisdom we heard on the evening is one that should ring true for everyone, Do what makes your heart sing!”

A truly inspiring talk from the nation’s favourite gardener!
