Marist Pupil awarded Hobbycraft Junior Artist of the Year Award

3 December 2018

Seren Morgan, a Year 8 pupil at The Marist School, Sunninghill, has been awarded the Hobbycraft Junior Artist of the Year Award 2018.

Over 2,000 entries were submitted to this year’s Hobbycraft Artist of the Year Awards with Seren’s pencil drawing of her dog Maisie chosen as the Junior Artist winner by one of the competition judges, Hobbycraft Art Buyer, Hannah Reynolds. As part of her prize, Seren was awarded a trophy, a £200 Hobbycraft Gift voucher and an art goody bag.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her winning design, Seren said,

“The drawing I submitted is a pencil drawing of my dog Maisie. I completed the picture of my dog because she means so much to me and she is such an important part of my life. I think that even if I didn’t win, I would still have not wanted to submit anything else because the drawing of Maisie is some of my best work and in my opinion, it reflects how much she is here with me during this incredible achievement.”

Mrs Rachel Ellwood, Head of Art at The Marist School commented,

“We are delighted that Seren has received this year’s Hobbycraft Junior Artist of the Year Award 2018. It is wonderful that her work has been recognised in a prestigious, national competition and we look forward to her continued art success both in and outside of the classroom.”
