National and Regional Success for Queen Mary’s Gymnasts and Trampolinists

7 December 2018

Girls from Queen Mary’s School, near Ripon, have received national and regional recognition in their Gymnastics and Trampolining seasons that came to a close this weekend.

The Queen Mary’s Under 10 Gymnastics team finished 3rd in the UK in the National Independent Schools Gymnastics competition. Amongst a strong field, Willow Briggs, Martha Pybus, Araminta Standeven and Zoe Hall each had to perform a floor routine and two vaults to secure the top three finish. This result was even more impressive as 2018 was the first year that the girls and the school had entered this competition.

At the prestigious Yorkshire Schools Gymnastic Association (YSGA) Trampolining competition, Queen Mary’s Under 11 Trampolining teams performed fantastic somersaults, swivelhips and back landings to finish 4th and 6th in Yorkshire.

The Kingston League Trampolining Finals took place this weekend following a long season and in the Under 13 category Queen Mary’s girls Georgia Wilson, Isabella Hay and Davina Lindfield took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The girls performed set routines followed by voluntary routines that were adjudicated by four judges.

Miss Danielle Pegg, Joint Head of Physical Education said: “I am so proud! These results can only be achieved through sheer dedication. Over the last two years both Gymnastics and Trampolining have become very popular at Queen Mary’s School and the girls keep surprising me with their progress. We look forward to building on this success next year and we are delighted to announce that a new competition-standard trampoline will be with us for January.”

Isabella Hay, age 12 from Harrogate, is delighted: “They are fantastic results! I’m so pleased to be part of an amazing team. Well done to everyone and thank you to Miss Pegg for all her help.”

Mrs Carole Cameron, Head of Queen Mary’s School said: “Congratulations to all our gymnasts and trampolinists who have worked extremely hard to achieve these placings. These sports allow the girls to shine as individuals, being able to adapt and make quick decisions, but at the same time work together as a team and support each other. It is wonderful to see Queen Mary’s girls acquiring these valuable transferable skills at such a young age.”

Queen Mary’s offers a broad curriculum, allowing pupils to pursue their interests within small classes designed to encourage their development and achievement. The next Open Morning will take place on Saturday 2 February. For more information please call 01845 575040.
