On Friday 14 December, artwork created by Prep and Senior pupils at The Marist School was unveiled at Ascot railway station. The artwork features in a new permanent exhibition, launched by The Arts Society Ascot, called ‘Art @ The Station’.
Marist pupils, parents and staff members attended the grand unveiling of the exhibition, which also features artwork from other local schools. Currently on display are two pieces of artwork from Marist pupils; a piece created by Early Years pupils and another piece created by Year 7 pupils. The girls’ artwork will remain in the exhibition for the next three to four months.
The focus of the Early Years artwork was for the girls to look at their own features, hair and eye colour in a mirror and then draw themselves. The self-portraits were created by blending oil pastel colours together and then the girls’ faces were placed on top of a montage of black and white photos highlighting the school. For the Year 7 piece, pupils showcased their use of watercolour, brush painting and composition techniques to create Oriental interpretations of animals and blossom, presenting their designs in the form of an Oriental scroll.
The Young Arts Project, ‘Art @ The Station’, is a new initiative launched by The Arts Society Ascot. The project was the brainchild of committee member Eloise Volschenk who is also a former teacher at The Marist School. The permanent exhibition inside Ascot railway station will feature artwork produced by pupils in local schools, changing every three to four months.
