LEH success at the Young Writers’ Festival 2019

15 March 2019

Below, Catherine (LIVX), who has been announced as the Junior Laureate, writes about her experience.

On Sunday 10th March, I visited The Exchange in Twickenham for the final of the Young Writers’ Competition, organised by Arts Richmond. Twenty finalists were present at the ceremony, including three LEH girls – myself, Sasha (LV) and Natasha (UVI). We took our seats in the auditorium and were enthralled as our work was dramatised by three professional actors: Tara Dowd, Emily Francis and Angus Woodward. It was wonderful to see our poems and prose brought to life.

After the theatre performance, the winners of the four age group categories were announced and we received certificates from the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Ben Khosa. I was delighted to win in my age category and to be announced as the Junior Laureate for 2019-2020. I look forward to meeting Roger McGough in May and contributing to many events later this year in this exciting role.
