Stormont School Netball Regional Winners

Stormont School Netball Regional Winners

1 March 2019

Stormont’s Year 6 netball team travelled to Felsted School, Essex on Thursday, 28th February for the regional round of the IAPS National Netball competition. Having played 5 games of fiercely fought netball in not so favourable conditions, they won every match to get to the quarter finals. The weather did not dampen their spirits and expectation was high. They had seen the competition and remained focused throughout.

In the quarter finals they beat Beechwood Park by 6 goals to 3 and then played Chesham Prep in the semi-final. This was probably the toughest match as they were 3 nil down in the first 3-4 mins. By half time they had turned it round to a 4-3 lead and then continued to score in the second half finally winning 8-4.

Having won the semi-final the girls realised that actually they could win the whole competition and knew that the final would be a tough one to conquer. Sadly, the atrocious weather conditions prevented the final being played. Stormont were awarded the winner’s shield based on overall wins and points. The girls all worked incredibly hard to achieve this and we are incredibly proud of them. Mrs Portsmouth, PE Coordinator, said “All 10 players showed great versatility and resilience, we cannot wait for the final”. Head of Stormont, Sharon Martin, added: “We may be a small school, but we aim high and the girls have done brilliantly. I am so proud of them all”.

The team are excited to be travelling to the National Final at Epsom College in a few weeks. Thank you to Felsted School for hosting and well done to all the other teams who took part.
