Lorna, 92, returns to school in Monmouth

7 June 2019

A 92-year-old woman had an afternoon to remember when she returned to her former school for the first time in 75 years.

Lorna Fildes left Monmouth School for Girls in July 1944 and enjoyed a successful career in the health care industry which took her to Canada and New Zealand.

She now lives near Abergavenny and had tea and cake with Mrs Jessica Miles, the new Headmistress at Monmouth School for Girls.

During her visit, Lorna also watched Monmouth School Girls’ Prep’s dress rehearsal of Winnie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Friend Joanna Hughes said: “Lorna had such a warm welcome and was thrilled to have returned to Monmouth School for Girls.

“Lorna is very good for her age and it was fabulous to listen to all her wonderful memories of being at school in Monmouth, her life and her career.”
