Abbot’s Hill girls celebrate fantastic GCSE Results

22 August 2019

Congratulations to the Year 11 pupils at Abbot’s Hill School who have continued to achieve excellent GCSE results in 2019.

Abbot’s Hill girls achieved:

– A 100% pass rate with 96.75% of grades at 9-4, compared with the national average of 69.9%

– 49.49% of all grades at Abbot’s Hill were at the top grades of 9-7, more than double the national average of 21.9%

– 7 girls also achieved the additional qualification of a Level 3 Award in Algebra

– 16 girls, around a third of the year group, received 7 or more GCSEs at grades 7-9

These results continue the school’s excellent record of GCSE success over many years, despite the introduction of new, more content heavy, specifications with greater emphasis on the number and length of examinations all taken at the end of the course.

Headmistress Elizabeth Thomas said, ‘We are thrilled that the hard work and determination of both pupils and staff has been rewarded with impressive results that will enable the girls to progress in their education at a range of leading Sixth Forms and Colleges which have offered them places. We wish them all the very best for their future studies.

The results also show how well the girls and staff have adapted to the introduction of the reformed GCSEs over the last three years.

We are delighted that our pupils have not allowed the adverse publicity surrounding the reforms to divert them from working hard whilst still enjoying and embracing the varied and extensive range of sporting, creative and leadership opportunities that enhance both their education and character. Abbot’s Hill is a non-selective school and its ethos nurtures not only academic achievement but all round development which enables the girls to fulfil their potential in the widest sense.’
