Malvern Student Kay ‘Braves the Shave’ for Charity!

23 October 2019

A huge ‘well done’ to Kay in Year 13 who ‘braved the shave’ on 22 October 2019 to raise money for Open Doors UK & Ireland and The Little Princess Trust. Speaking on why she chose to shave her hair, Kay said, “I am a Christian teenager and recently I’ve become interested in the work of Open Doors. I found out about the charity by accident and was amazed to find out how serious and horrific the persecution is against Christians in many countries across the world.”

Many members of staff and students joined Kay in Lawnside to support her during her transformation. Kay went on to say, “I think it’s time someone took a stand and said enough is enough. We need to stop ignoring the suffering of Christians around the world. We need to talk about it because the media doesn’t. We need to raise awareness. And we need to raise funds to support people going through this. That’s why I’m shaving my head – to make a stand and do something different that will remind myself and others every day about what my family are going through around the world.”

First, Kay had her long hair plaited by Kirsten from local hair salon, Andrew Slater, in Great Malvern. Kirsten then cut her off her plait(!), which will be donated to The Little Princess Trust. Kirsten then shaved Kay’s off from Grade 3, all the way to a Grade ‘0’!

At the time of writing this article, Kay had already raised £1672.19.
