International Experience for GB Skier from Bolton School Girls’ Division

4 November 2019

Gabriella Giambattista-Hunt, a Year 8 pupil at Bolton School Girls’ Division, enjoyed her first taste of international skiing, taking part in the Lowland Skiing Championships 2019 at Landgraaf in Holland where she trained and competed with some of the best young skiers in Northern Europe.

Gabriella took part in the Snow World Championships (the largest indoor snow race in the world) and achieved an impressive 12th position in the U14 category in the girls’ section, coming 4th in her year of birth category. The following day she positioned 21st, 9th in year of birth, in the U14 Lowland Championships. It was a commendable achievement against fellow competitors, some of whom train and live in the Alps for over 20 weeks per year in academies. Interestingly, the top girls were beating the top boys down the same FIS course in the U14s.

Gabriella was representing Great Britain, helping them to win the Nations Cup by beating Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and Ireland on the way. This is a slalom team event consisting of the compounded results from each nation.

Earlier in the year, Gabriella had a very successful summer and was delighted to end the GBR Outdoor series in 4th place and the GBR Indoor series in 5th place.
