Bruton School for Girls was honoured to welcome esteemed choral director, Brian Kay, to the school for a choral masterclass on three of the movements from Handel’s Messiah. The main hall at the school was filled with the glorious sound of the massed voices of girls and staff from the school and members of local choirs and the community who were invited to this special event.
Brian Kay is a founder member of the King’s Singers and has enjoyed an illustrious career in music broadcasting on the radio, winning a Sony Award for music producer of the year. He is principal conductor of the Really Big Chorus, which brings together massed voices in a diverse range of venues.
Director of Music at Bruton School for Girls, Matt Dury, said: “It was such a special experience for the girls to be involved in. Handel’s Messiah is an iconic piece of music and we’re very grateful to Brian for sharing his expertise and passion with us. We wanted as many people as possible to be able to take part in this event, and I’m delighted that over 40 members of local choirs were able to join us.”
The choir from Bruton School for Girls will be performing Handel’s Messiah in the Really Big Chorus at the ‘Messiah from Scratch’ event at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 7th December in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
