The importance of positive attitude – key message at BSG Careers Day

26 November 2019

Bruton School for Girls held its annual Careers Day for students in Years 11-13 recently. We welcomed students from Sexey’s School, Ansford Academy and Honiton College who joined our girls for a series of workshops representing a diverse range of careers – including fashion, marketing, graphic design, veterinary, aerospace and creative writing. The keynote speech was delivered by philanthropist and motivational speaker, Jillian Haslam, who enthralled the audience with her life-story and the importance of positive attitude. There were also sessions on setting up a business for any future entrepreneurs.

Head of Sixth Form and Careers, Xaviere Harvey, said: “It’s so important that students open their eyes to the opportunities that lie in the world of work. We know that many of the jobs that our students will go on to do may not even exist yet, and it’s likely that today’s young people will have a variety of different careers through their working life, so transferable skills, flexibility and an open-mind are more important than ever. We are very grateful to the old girls of the school and local professionals who gave up their time to speak at our Careers Day.”
