The Kingsley School U16 Ski Team of Hannah Dennison (from Daventry), Emma Lawton (from Leamington Spa) and Lucy Sainsbury (from Stratford upon Avon) travelled to The French Alps on Saturday 25th January to compete in The 61st running of The British Schoolgirls Ski Championships in the high level French ski resort of Flaine. 160 athletes from 54 schools from across Britain were competing.

The event is organised by The Ladies Ski Club who are the oldest female ski club in the world.

The 3 students together with Lorenza Chapman (from Warwick) were crowned British Schools’ Champions on an artificial slope in Stoke on Trent in November 2019 and they travelled to The Alps in an attempt to repeat this achievement on snow.

On Monday 27th January the Kingsley Team competed in the Giant Slalom and finished 2nd, beaten by only 7 points by Wimbledon High School. Hannah Dennison achieved an excellent 5th place in the individual placings.

On Tuesday 28th January in a driving snowstorm, the Kingsley Team achieved 1st place in the U16 event, beating arch rivals, Surbiton High School for Girls, into second place by a massive 155 points.

Hannah Dennison achieved 4th place in the individual rankings and was well supported by Emma in 12th place and Lucy in 25th. As a result of her placings in both Giant Slalom and Slalom, Hannah made the podium in 2nd place in the combined event.

The Kingsley School are now the first school ski team from The Midland Region to hold both the British Schools’ Championships in both artificial and snow events. This success would not be possible without the dedication of Ski Race Coach, Roger Crombleholme, who coaches the Kingsley skiers at The Ackers Adventure Centre in Birmingham, and the Kingsley Ski Manager, Alan Edwards.

The three students together with six other Kingsley girls will now compete in The Aiglon College Cup in Villars-sur-Ollons in Switzerland in March.
