THS launches pre-A Level and pre-university Academic Enrichment Programme

13 May 2020

Truro High School is launching an Academic Enrichment Programme for students in Year 11 and Year 13 in order to best prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead at A Level and Undergraduate study.

On the completion of their GCSE and A Level courses, students will now have the opportunity to continue their learning with a series of courses aimed at refining their understanding and developing skills which will prove invaluable as they take the next step up at Sixth Form and university.

Director of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Jo House said: “We want to give the girls the opportunity to continue approaching their learning with an enquiring mind and to develop their intellectual curiosity beyond the traditional curriculum. Faculties will be offering exploratory learning opportunities – including independent research projects, lectures and tutorials – in order to help them take even more confident steps in their learning journey.”

“These pre-A Level and pre-University courses are open to all girls in these years groups and we strongly recommend that they participate in these courses, modules and projects even if they are not taking further study in these areas, as the skills they develop with be transferable across any subject or discipline.”

Courses range postmodern analysis of fairytales in English and entering the John Locke Institute essay competition, run by academics from Oxford and Princeton, in History to undertaking allergens training with the Food Standards Agency as part of Food Preparation and Nutrition. Specialist courses on everything from mental health first aid to marketing and PR will also be on offer.
