Queen’s Gate Entrepreneurs: Two Pupils Start Up Their Own Businesses In Lockdown

15 July 2020

During lockdown, Queen’s Gate Senior School pupils, Kalina and Rayya, used their ingenuity to spark two new businesses and orders are coming in thick and fast!

Kalina, who decided to pursue STEM based subjects for A Level, had been missing using her creativity in GCSE Art. Therefore, with some extra time on her hands, she was inspired to start up KILD SNEAKERS, a shoe customisation business which focuses on the sneaker model, Air Jordan 1, after the most revered NBA basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan.

KILD make one of a kind designs that are personally constructed for each customer and later they sketch and paint on the sneakers to produce an original model. Expansion of the business is on the horizon this summer and they hope to start donating a percentage of their profit to charity in the near future!

Rayya has had a ‘passion for fashion’ since she was toddler and could often be found trying on her mother’s shirts and heels, hoping to one day design her own! Her newly launched online clothing business, BLOOM, focuses on colourful tie-dye designs. Rayya explains, “I wanted to create a name that symbolises growth and beauty, just like my logo – a butterfly”. Once BLOOM has received 50 orders, Rayya has decided to donate a percentage of her profits to NHS and key workers, in support of their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
