Queen’s welcome a full return in September

6 July 2020

Despite the COVID restrictions, Queen’s has been delighted to have seen 97% of Reception, Year 1 and 2 and 82% of Year 6 girls back in school full time for the Summer term.

85% of Year 3, 4 and 5 girls also returned for allocated days in the last few weeks of term, as well as 93% of Year 10 and 92% of Year 12 girls for catch up sessions. This week Years 7-9 also got to enjoy some face to face time in school, catching up with their friends and the pastoral team on the fields.

The school is now well prepared and planning for a full return of all pupils in September, confident it can be achieved and that the girls will be as resilient as always and continue to adapt to the ever changing restrictions in place.

Headmistress Mrs Sue Wallace-Woodroffe said: ‘We cannot wait to welcome all pupils back to school in September and following the successful return of so many girls already, I am confident we will have the full heart of the school beating once again within the grounds of the school rather than remotely. That being said, if the situation does change, the success of our remote learning provision means we will remain able to continue to deliver a full and varied timetable to all. Our girls and staff have adapted and adjusted so seamlessly to remote learning and the phased return over the last few months and I am so proud of them all and the strength of the Queen’s Community.’

Head of the Lower School Miss Iona Carmody said: ‘Passion and warmth will always be a feature of the Queen’s experience, whether this be through a tangible human connection, or with the aid of data travelling in milliseconds through cyberspace. We have confidence in our vulnerability, because that’s what makes us authentic. COVID may have restricted our freedoms, but it has not hindered our ability to connect, and so we have spent the last few weeks getting to know our new Reception families through Zoom and cannot wait to welcome them in September. I have loved welcoming back so many of our Lower School girls already this term and watching them thrive on being back in the comfort of their friends and teachers. When unexpected challenges are foisted upon us, it is the strength and support of a community and the consistent care of Queen’s staff that ensure the foundations of an excellent education remain steadfast.’

The end of the school year will be marked with a special video for families to enjoy, showcasing the superb work and achievements of the girls over the last academic year. These will be available to view on our Youtube channel on the last day of term.
