Bolton School could not hold Results Day as usual this year due to Covid-19 safety restrictions, and so the normal celebration of A Level achievements was replaced by a socially distant alternative. Nonetheless, students in the Girls’ Division were encouraged to make the most of their moment, no matter the strange global circumstances surrounding it.
Sue Hincks, Headmistress of Bolton School Girls’ Division, said: “It has been a very strange day in the Girls’ Division indeed. Normally we would expect the buzz of students delighting in each others’ success whereas this year, we have not been able to open our doors to give out results.
“All the girls have passed all their A Levels. The percentage pass at A* to C is 95.4%. This year, the percentage pass at A* and A has gone up to 54.4% (against 51.9% last year). 18.5% of grades were at A*. As always, we are immensely proud of all the girls and wish them well as they head off for University, to complete an apprenticeship, or to begin employment. The majority of the Centre’s Assessed Grades have been upheld and we are looking closely at those subjects or individual grades where an appeal might be necessary.”
The class of 2020 received their results via email and portal and were wished a fond farewell from their tutors over the phone during the morning. Despite the socially distant nature of this year’s celebrations, the thoughts of everyone at Bolton School were with the Year 13 leavers throughout the day.
