St Margaret’s community keep moving with Movember Millions Challenge

3 December 2020

Pupils, staff and the wider St Margaret’s community have hit their target by walking over 30 million steps during the month of November raising £800 for charity.

The “St Margaret’s Movember Millions” initiative was launched on the 1st November and was a walking challenge in which every member of the school community was encouraged to participate. The aim of the initiative was to walk a collective total of one million steps per day for the month of November, enhancing wellbeing by the commitment to daily exercise and raising money for two worthy causes, nominated by St Margaret’s sixth year pupils, in the process.

During the month of November the PE department used the core PE and games lessons to incorporate opportunities for pupils to increase their daily step total. Pupils and staff were encouraged throughout the month to continue to submit their daily step counts and the participation from across the school community was wonderful.

Head of PE Karen Norval said: “A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Movember Millions Challenge. As a result of teamwork across the St Margaret’s community an amazing total of 37,729,746 million steps was reached, far exceeding the 30 million target, a great example of the #StMargaretstogether spirit.”

The challenge has collectively raised £800 for the nominated charities – Mental Health Aberdeen and Plan International.

“Now that the challenge is over, of course we encourage everyone to keep up those healthy habits and daily walks as we move forward into the festive season. We look forward to launching other fun health and wellbeing initiatives in the New Year”.
