New leadership team for Portsmouth High Prep School

23 April 2021

Portsmouth High School are delighted to have two new members of staff join Mr Paul Marshallsay, Headmaster of Portsmouth High Prep School’s, leadership team.

Mr Tom Bromfield joins the school as Assistant Head Academic and comes to Portsmouth High School after ten years at Prebendal in Chichester. Mr Bromfield has been teaching for over twenty years, is a history specialist and has always been involved in school sport, particularly cricket.

‘My greatest achievement in sport was getting the chance to learn to sail alongside the pupils a few years ago, it was very rewarding and a real challenge. My hobbies include a lot of history reading, cooking for the family and running (so long as my ankle does not grumble too much).’

Mrs Ruth Irvine-Capel joins the team as Assistant Head Pastoral at the Prep School. As an alumna of Oxford High School, a sister Girls’ Day School Trust school, she says coming to PHS is a ‘little like coming home.’

Mrs Irvine-Capel qualified as a teacher in 2002 and has worked in a wide range of schools both state and independent sectors, alongside nurturing her own three children. She will concentrate on supporting the pupils wellbeing and encouraging them to develop a love of reading. She too joins us from Prebendal.

‘I enjoy gardening, walking, baking and getting lost in a good novel,’ she said.

Mr Bromfield and Mrs Irvine-Capel join Mr Marshallsay and Mrs Victoria Fabre de la Grange, Head of Pre-Prep.

Mr Paul Marshallsay added:

‘With these experienced and talented practitioners, the school is now well placed to continue to develop and adapt to the changing world which faces us over the next few years. They join Mrs Victoria Fabre de la Grange and myself as the Prep Leadership Team.’
