The UK’s newest Netball academy is partnering with York’s only all-girl School to offer an exciting new programme for local netballers of all abilities.

Elite Netball Academy, which was launched in June 2020 by former Leeds Rhinos’ Netball coachand England Pathway selector, Anna Carter, will hold weekly coaching sessions at The Mount School York, the all-girl Quaker school announced today.

“We are very excited to be launching a partnership with Elite Netball Academy and that they have chosen The Mount as their exclusive York venue. The Academy offers unrivalled mentoring, motivation and tuition, enabling girls and women to fulfil their netball potential. At The Mount we are very lucky to have high-quality sporting facilities which the Academy has recognised,” said The Mount’s Principal, Adrienne Richmond today.

The sessions are open for girls from across the region, age 12 to 15 years and of all abilities, on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm until 8pm.

Anna Carter said, “Elite Netball Academy recognises the need for better support for young netballers and aims to create an inclusive community. I want this programme to give all athletes the opportunity to access quality coaching to push their game to the next level and explore their true potential. This partnership with The Mount, as the UK’s only all-girl Quaker school, is a great fit for both parties.”

During the recent national lockdown, Netball and other contact sports changed their rules of play to safeguard the sport against spreading viruses. Returning to match play has been staggered in accordance with government guidelines. Outdoor facilities re-opened on 29 March and on 12 April indoor facilities were able to re-open and Junior netball activities were able to recommence. Ifpublic health develops as hoped, from 21 June the modified rules may be lifted and tournaments will be able to recommence.

In addition to the open coaching sessions girls at The Mount will also be invited to take part in exclusive sessions with the top-level Elite Netball coaches. “Netball is a much-loved sport by Mount girls, they are thrilled to be able to take part in these additional sessions. Elite Netball Academy offers across-the-board support developing all players and driving them forward. Our aim is that all girls have a positive and enjoyable experience of the sporting programme we offer and that they will embrace sport and physical activities for the rest of their lives,” comments Emma Howell, Head of PE at The Mount.

Partnering with Elite Netball Academy is another great achievement for The Mount School, as a leading school in girls’ education, after the school became North Yorkshire’s first school to achieve the coveted “All-Steinway School” status in March 2020.

“Being leaders in educating girls, means understanding girls’ needs,” explains Principal Adrienne Richmond. “As the needs of girls change, our educational offer is able to evolve accordingly. Throughout the School, we offer girls a myriad of opportunities to hone their skills and to try their hand at something new. Our aim will always be to ensure Mount girls are equipped with the skills, ambition, and courage to succeed, in anything they aspire to be whether that is in sport, academia, performing arts or humanities.”

Elite Netball Academy will hold development sessions for girls from age 12 to 15 years on Tuesdays from 6.30pm-8pm. To register, contact [email protected]
