Talented musician, Ally Lam, has gained her ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) Diploma in Violin Performance from Trinity College London.

The professional qualification, recognised world-wide, entitles Ally to use the letters ATC after her name, and is equivalent to the end of first year playing level for a student in conservatoire or university.

Ally, a Year 13 student at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, performed her programme live the evening before recording it digitally for Trinity.

The performance was in the Performing Arts Centre in front of a small but appreciative ‘bubbled’ audience, with girls from Augusta House, staff, and Headteacher of Monmouth School for Girls, Mrs Jessica Miles.

Director of Music, Mr Derek Harris, compered the evening, offering illuminating introductions to each of the programme items as well as performing as Ally’s duo partner.

The programme included: Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Dvořák’s Allegro maestoso and Allegro appassionato from four Romantic pieces, Ravel’s Pièce en forme de Habanera, and Sarasate’s Romanza Andaluza.

Mr Christopher Horner, a visiting Violin Teacher at Monmouth School for Girls, said: “I have been Ally’s violin teacher since she came to us from Hong Kong in Year 9. It has been a great pleasure to see her growth through the violin and music.

“Her contribution to the Music Department and school life has been outstanding through her participation in solo concerts, chamber music and the Monmouth School for Girls Orchestra and the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools Symphony Orchestra (HMSSO).”
