St Mary’s School short-listed for a prestigious national award

28 June 2021

St Mary’s School, Cambridge, has received national recognition for delivering outstanding excellence in the visual arts – after it was short-listed in the ‘Art and Craft’ category of the 2021 Education Business Awards.

The school is one of only four in the country short-listed in this category. The winner will be revealed on the 8 July in an online ceremony hosted by Jeff Brazier (BT Sport Score presenter, ambassador for People’s Postcode Lottery, and TalkRadio presenter).

Ms Conroy, Head of Visual Arts at St Mary’s School, said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the organisers of these highly-regarded awards for our first-class art provision. At St Mary’s we have a flourishing art department that embraces both traditional creative skills and advances in digital art technologies. We work hard to inspire creativity in our students – getting them to visit gallery exhibitions and to take part in local community art projects that extend their appreciation of practical art techniques as well as context and culture. The results of this work shine through with our talented students enjoying great success in both local and national art competitions.”

St Mary’s Headmistress, Charlotte Avery, said: “Our school boasts a varied and balanced curriculum with creative arts an integral and important aspect of our education ethos. Over the past year and a half, adults and children alike have taken great comfort from the arts. It’s humbling to be acknowledged for our dedication and hard work in this area. We look forward to the forthcoming ceremony and are keeping everything crossed for a win!”

The Education Business Awards are organised by the specialist magazine, Education Business, which has been recognising school achievements since 1998 and reporting on thousands of school success stories.
