Alderley Edge School for Girls in Cheshire is delighted to announce that it has been given the highest possible ‘Excellent’ rating following a full inspection from the Independent Schools Inspectorate in June. The inspection was focused on the pupils’ academic and other achievements, as well as their personal development with the school being found to be excellent across each area.

After interviewing staff and students, surveying parents and observing classes and daily life at the school, the inspectors commented that “throughout the school progress is rapid, and students achieve highly in both academic and other areas”. In addition, they commented on the students being “hardworking and resilient with extremely positive attitudes to learning” and having a “genuine desire to succeed”.

Along with excellent academic results, AESG prides itself on being a supportive and nurturing school with excellent pastoral care and this was recognised by the inspectors. They commented that “teaching supports pupils’ personal development extremely well through well-organised tutor group discussions and the excellent pastoral care systems in operation throughout the school” and that “excellent teaching is tailored to the needs of the students”.

In addition, the inspectors found that “pupils are highly self-disciplined, and their personal development is characterised by excellent standards of behaviour and respect, both for each other and for staff” and that pupils help to “create an extremely harmonious and engaging community.” And one that is “calm, convivial and inclusive”.

Beyond the classroom, students at AESG have a varied and exciting programme of activities designed to help the students develop and aid their resilience to the modern world and the inspectors found students “make an excellent contribution to the school community through fulfilling roles of responsibility or as mentors, and to the wider community through charitable volunteering and involvement”.

Headmistress Nicola Smillie commented “I am delighted with the outcome of the Inspection. The inspection team were rigorous but professional. To receive Excellent ratings for both pupils’ achievements ad personal development is testimony to the hard work and ongoing commitment from all the staff at AESG as well as the girls’ positive attitude to learning.”
