A former student at Monmouth School for Girls has been hailed for her remarkable volunteering efforts during the pandemic.

Amy Hughes has been recognised in the annual University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence.

Miss Hughes has been granted an award for volunteering, having completed more than 1,300 hours in 2020, including clinically supporting patients at London’s Nightingale Hospital, qualifying as an Emergency Ambulance Crew with St John Ambulance and working three frontline shifts a week responding to 999 calls, as well as volunteering at St James’ Vaccination Centre.

The aim of the annual awards is to highlight exceptional contributions by students and staff.

Miss Hughes’ achievements will be celebrated in an awards event at the university on Wednesday 15th September.
